Worth Waiting For - Part 2
by Patrick Ryan

Now back at home my wife is having her own issue. She’s been waiting for a neighbour down the road to call her about our wedding photographs. Three months previous we got married. The photographer for the reception was fantastic. About three weeks after the reception he called and said we should meet up. I suggested that if all we were going to do was pick up a CD with digital prints of our photographs that there was no need to meet. He could simply mail us the CD. We let 2 or 3 weeks go by and the CD never arrived. Since he lives nearby the CD should have come within a week. We tried to be patient but were finding it tough, we were very eager to see the photos.

Both my wife and I tried to apply pressure on the photographer by calling but he never responded. We emailed and he never responded. Then this past Monday he emailed. He said that he had been on vacation, could not believe that we had not received the CD (because he had sent it) and that he would deliver another CD in person. So that night he called. He called to say that his wife had delivered the CD but delivered it to wrong house. We live at 1 Claremont, she delivered it to 11 Lynndale. That night when my wife got home we visited 11 Calremont to try and get the CD but there was nobody home.

When I arrived home that night from my Ryerson class, all my wife wanted me to do was go over to 11 Lynndale and try to get the CD. At first I balked but I agreed. So here I was having just been through my Ryerson experience and now on my way to meet somebody I didn’t know how to explain myself about a CD.

When I approached the house I noticed a figure moving in the background. I was happy to know that I’d get to speak with somebody. I thought it was a man. It was cold that night (-3). I used the buzzer and buzzed-in. Then I waited for a few minutes. The dogs were barking but nobody came. After 5 minutes and still no answer at the door I started to think that maybe the person in the house was ignoring me.

Then I thought, “Maybe I should look in the outdoor mailbox. Hmmm. That’s probably not a good idea. Maybe I should go knock on the door on the side of the house. Hmm. That doesn’t seem like a good idea either since I’d have to open a gate and go on their property.”

So I called my wife. I told here the situation. Told her, “Hi. I don’t know whatt to do. I know somebody’s in there but nobody is answering the door.”

I thought , I’ll knock on the door directly and if I get no response we’ll have to come back another day. The dogs started barking again and very soon after somebody came to the door. He seemed nice. He understood the moment I mentioned the CD. He must have looked at the CD and recognized me from the photos. He gave me the CD and off I went.

When I got home my wife and I looked at the photos and it turned out to be a really good night. Both my wife and I enjoyed the photos.

A wrap up of my night is as follows:
- When I park if I think that I will stay past 6 pm then I have to put money in the meter. (I’m not sure I’ll follow this deal.)
- If I get a ticket I can’t complain to the enforcement officer. (I’m not sure I’ll follow this deal.)
- I’m not really keen on taking courses at Ryerson University and entering their maze. (I’ll probably go back next week.)
- Call the photographer’s wife and explain to her the difference between the numbers one and eleven. (I probably won’t do this either.)
- Even if the night starts off in the wrong direction and at every turn things seem to go wrong, all can work out well in the end. (I’ll try to remember this the next time everything seems to go haywire.)
